Our segment shelled drums produce a wonderfully responsive and full-bodied sound with the warm fundamental you'd expect from a wood drum. We designed these shells to have a high relative pitch to add a nice top-end point to the sound.
These come with 2.3mm triple flanged metal hoops standard, but are available with maple, bubinga, bocote, cocobolo, and ebony wood hoops also. The expertly crafted wood hoops use finger joints for the strongest joint possible.

Segment shells use constructed "rings" of wood that are layered to achieve a drum shell. The grain of the wood is oriented circumfrentially around the shell which minimizes the expansion and contraction of the shell.
Stave drums, which orient the wood grain parallel to the drum depth, can experience significant expansion and contraction of the drum's diameter. This is not a problem with segment shells and this is why we can put our famous "dipped in glass" gloss clearcoat on these shells.
